Swimming pools are subjected to harsh environments and need to be taken care of for maintaining it. Bacteria and Algae formation is the most common problem for pool-owners if they are not maintained properly. Debris get collected in pool water and they need to be cleared regularly for maintaining hygiene. Dust, leaves and other particles are bought into pool by air. Three types of pool filters are available in market and you need to select the one depending on your convenience. In this article I will brief you on the types of filters and their advantages.
Diatomaceous Earth Filter
Diatomaceous Earth filters or DE Filters are the most effective pool filters. If you want the water in your pool to be crystal clear than this filter is the right choice for you. Naked eyes are unable to see particles which are smaller than 40 microns. DE filters are able to keep the pool free of particles as small as 3 to 5 microns. These filters are made up of grids which are coated with Diatomaceous Earth. Mined Diatomaceous earth is used in the form of solid covering. This coat of diatomaceous earth acts as sieve and helps in removing the debris. DE filters are able to filter the smallest grain of filth and hence can be considered most effective tool for keeping your pool clean. These filters are the costliest in maintenance but you will have no problem in having clear waters in your pool.
Sand is used in this type of filter for cleaning the dirt from the water. Water passes through the sand which retains the dirt and lets the clean water out into the pool. The process is similar to coffee filtration. When the flow of water starts getting slow, it is an indication that you need to carry on the maintenance work. The process is very simple. You let the water in through outlet and remove it through inlet. Instead of pool you let the water into sewer. Through this process you push all the dirt from the sand out into the drainage pipe to the sewer. The process is called “back-washing” of the filter. Even after filtration if you do not get clean water in the pool than it is time to change the sand in the filter. You can change sand after 5 years. Normally it is recommended that you can change the sand after 20 years but it all depends on your usage.
Cartridge Pool filter
If you do not want to spend lot of time on maintenance of the filter than cartridge pool filter is just right for you. The cartridge is enveloped in a cylinder. All the dirt and dust will be collected by cartridge. Cleaning of the cartridge is also easy, you have to remove it and clean it gently with water. Check the cartridge every time you clean, as regular wear and tear may create a need to change it pool maintenance.
